Success!

I passed my oral exam and got lots of excellent feedback from my examiners! It was the most productive and enjoyable exam I have ever had. You almost never hear that! Here's to hoping my thesis defense in December will be similar! My supervisor gave me some flowers and champagne to celebrate at the small gathering we had the evening of my exam. It was an excellent night filled with food, friends and laughter. I also want to thank you to all of your kind words or support. Just 4 more months to go!

These lovely flowers on the left were a gift from Diego for my birthday. I love the colour combination and details of the petals! They also smell lovely and have lasted. He sure knows me well. I guess after almost 10 years together I shouldn't be surprised. :)

We have also had a bounty of tomatoes in our garden this year. The potatoes and garlic were small but still tasty. I have not spent much time in the garden this year with working on trying to finish up but I am looking forward to gardening next year! Now I just need to find some tasty ways to get those tomatoes into my belly!

I hope you are all enjoying your long weekend!

  1. Congratulations on passing your oral exam with flying colors!!! Your supervisor is awfully nice. My husband takes his students out for a celebratory lunch afterward, but no champaign and flowers. ;) Granted, he never buys me those either, so it'd be out of character for him. LOL!

Are those mums? They sure are pretty.

Lucky you on your tomato bounty. It's been our worst year ever for tomatoes. It's probably due to us having some extreme heat for a while during the time when the plants would be fruiting. Everything else did well though so I can't complain. We still have tons of tomato sauce that we canned last year (a bumper crop year) so we won't be running out.

    1. I have a feeling after my defense there will be a celebratory dinner. My supervisor and I are great friends so I think that played a role in her choice of gift. :)

They are mums and although the leaves have now faded (it has been 2 weeks) the flowers are still going strong.

  2. Congratulations !!! Our tomatoes are slow to ripen this year. Plants are chuck-up full with green fruits but every day I go out and bring in about 6 ripe ones. We won't have enough to can this year but I'm going to buy some from a local farmer so I can make and can tomato sauce this year. Four months are going to go by so fast; best of luck with this huge project you've been working so hard on.

    1. I think we would have enough to make small canning batches but we have been enjoying the fresh warm tomatoes right off the plant. That is until this week when over 10 were ripe all at once...looks like soup will be the best way to consume them. I usually make it, eat some then freeze the rest for lunches. It doesn't last all year but it is a good way to get that fresh tomato taste in the middle of winter! I think just to bump up my stash I too will get some from the farmers! :)

Thanks for your well wishes, I really appreciate it! :)
